What breed is my dog? Fido reads the photo.
Upload one clear photo and Fido, our AI assistant, reads the visual clues: the shape of the skull, the set of the ears, coat type and color pattern, build and proportion. You get a full breed mix with percentages, a short written read on what Fido noticed, and the part no DNA kit can do: adoptable dogs near you who look like yours, pulled nightly from real shelters.
It is free, takes about ten seconds, and there is no cheek swab, no waiting two weeks, and no account required. The estimate comes from AI vision analysis, so treat it as a smart, well-reasoned guess rather than a lab result. For mixed breed dogs, that guess is often the first real answer anyone has given you.
Shelter staff use the same tool to write better listings; adopters use it to settle the eternal "what IS she?" debate. Either way, every photo ends the same happy argument.
Questions people actually ask
How accurate is the breed identification?
Fido reads visible traits, so results are an educated visual estimate with a confidence level, not a genetic certainty. Distinctive purebreds read very reliably; complex mixes are an honest best guess with percentages that total at most 100.
Is it really free?
Yes. Breed identification, your Fido Finds, and the adoption listings are free for adopters and free for shelters. The site earns through optional partner listings and clearly marked affiliate links, never through your results.
Is this the same as a DNA test?
No. A DNA test samples genes; Fido reads the photo. If breed certainty matters for housing, insurance, or health decisions, use a genetic test and talk to a veterinarian. For curiosity and adoption matching, the photo read is fast and surprisingly sharp.
What photo works best?
One dog, facing the camera, decent light, most of the body visible. Blurry photos, extreme angles, and costumes lower the confidence. You can crop right in the tool.
What happens to my photo?
It is used to generate your result and your shareable card. If you share a result, that link keeps working until you delete it with the delete link on the page. Details in our privacy policy.
Can it identify any breed?
Fido recognizes the breeds you will actually meet in North American shelters, which covers the overwhelming majority of dogs. Rare breeds may read as their closest relatives, and the written read will say so.
