[YELLOW]Background: Owner surrender on 9/15/26. Surrendered due to inadequate housing. Surrendered with another 7-month old male sibling and adult male dog. Dog's lived mostly outside and had not received medical care prior to shelter intake. Yellow dot on intake. Intake staff noted dog was scared throughout intake process, but allowed all handling for intake procedures including vaccines.B Summary of staff and volunteer handling notes to date.O: Dog has been housed with male sibling in the shelter. Both dogs were initially shut down and did not leave the kennel during the first day after intake. Treat motivated and followed treat trail out of the kennel. Hesitated at doorways. Pancaked in the hallway and did not walk on leash. Have been carried by volunteers and staff. In the yard off leash, both dogs will approach handlers separately. Take treats with soft mouth. Soft face and low tail, some soft tail wags as they approach handlers. Step forward for pets around the head. Tolerant of handling all over head, neck, back, belly, and legs. Return to kennel ahead of handler, no issues removing leash by hand.B B A: Personality is difficult to assess as dog is under socialized and somewhat shutdown. However, dog is affiliative and tolerant of handling. Treat motivated. Presents as medium, stable energy. Dog has limited to no training and does not appear to have any experience walking on leash. Yellow for volunteer handling as dog does not walk well on leash and is somewhat timid and shutdown.B P: Make available for adoption. Dog is a puppy and will need continued appropriate socialization with new people, places and other animals, and positive reinforcement/rewards based training. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Training should begin before this puppy learns unwanted behaviors and becomes difficult to control. Adopter must be prepared for the time, energy, patience and commitment needed to raise and train a puppy. Adopter must be physically capable of handling a large, strong dog.[2026-09-18 20:04:00.000]
