Health
[YELLOW]Background: Brought in stray by finder on 9/14/26. Surrendered by owner over the phone. Given Yellow dot on intake. Dog was nervous throughout intake but allowed all handling for intake procedures including vaccines. Handling evaluation on 9/17/26.O: Sitting at the front of the kennel, hunched over. Dog has injured ear and some superficial injuries around his face and head. Easy to leash. Does not engage with barking ward mates while walking through the ward. Pulls moderately while walking down the hallway. In the yard, walks with handler with less pulling in the yard. Dropped leash in the yard. Dog walked away while sniffing. Urinated and defecated in the yard. Very loose, relaxed wagging tail and relaxed body language when touched all over head, neck, chest, back, and legs. Handler avoided touching injured ear. Dog walked away after consent check. Allowed teeth check with relaxed body language and soft face. Approximately 2 years old by teeth. Took treats with a soft mouth using only lips and tongue. Did not respond to verbal or hand cue for sit, but looked at handler with soft face and eyes. Followed tossed squeaker toys and balls but did not pick up. Went to gate several times and began pushing snout at the gap and pawing at the gate. Distracted by handler calling to him. Walked with moderate pulling back to kennel. Hesitates at the kennel threshold, but follows handler into kennel. Slip leash can be removed by hand without issue.Volunteer notes to date are consistent with staff notes.A: Independent young dog with minimal training. Is relatively new intake (3rd day after intake) and appears to be exit seeking. Presents as medium stable energy. Approaches handler for treats and shows enjoyment with pets. Did not show much interest in toys. Possibly house trained (eliminates on entering the yard). Does not appear to know any basic commands. Yellow for volunteer handling: dog pulls moderately on leash and hesitant to return to kennel; can be somewhat environmentally sensitive but has relaxed over time and appears to be acclimated to the shelter routine. Consider for Green if recommended by volunteers.B B P: Make available for adoption. Adopters should continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children.B [2026-09-18 20:42:00.000]
