Health

[GREEN]Background: Brought in on protective custody hold on 9/2/26. Owner was unable to care for the dogs due to illness. Given Yellow dot on intake. No intake handling notes available. Second time handling dog for evaluation on 9/15/26.O: Soiled kennel. In kennel dog was lying down on kuranda bed. Stood and walked to the door with loose, relaxed body language and soft face. Easy to leash. Pulled moderately on leash down the hallway. Walked and sniffed outside some occasional hard pulling on leash. Dropped leash in the yard. Dog walked and sniffed and did not engage with handler for approximately 5 minutes. Handler approached and scratched dog on the back and head. Dog leaned into pets all over head and back. Stepped forward for more pets around head after consent check. Tolerant of all handling around chest, shoulders, belly, and legs. Did not respond to verbal cue or luring for sit. Soft mouth taking treats. Followed tossed squeaky toy, picked it up and started bouncing around with loose, relaxed musculature and wagging tail. Bounced around and used paws and snout to push a ball around. Moderate pulling down the hallway. Entered kennel ahead of handler. Removed slip leash by hand without issue.Volunteer and whiteboard notes to date are consistent with staff notes.Tolerant of all handling for bathing and nail trim by volunteers. A: Somewhat independent senior dog with minimal training. Presents as low to medium stable energy. Playful with toys and shows enjoyment with pets once engaged with handler. Treat motivated. Unknown if house trained. Does not appear to know any basic commands. Green for volunteer handling: dog pulls moderately on leash, but has been tolerant of all handling, including grooming and nail trim, and seeks further engagement with handler when interacting for pets or play. P: Make available for adoption. Adopters should continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children. [2026-09-16 03:06:00.000]
