[YELLOW]Background: Owner surrender on 9/21/26. Staff outing following intake.O: Dog walked in fast circles in kennel when handler approached. Nosed at door and pushed her way out into the leash. Lowered/crouched body language and pulled back ears walking through the building. Soft face, pulled back ears with lowered body language and soft wagging tail as she approached seated handler. Startled and lowered body when handler unexpectedly touched her back. Sat when asked. Took treats with a soft mouth. Pulled moderately on leash walking back through yard to kennel. Pulled back on leash and flailed as handler walked her towards the kennel door. Followed handler inside the kennel. Pushed her snout and pawed at the door as handler reached back in to unleash. Unleashed by hand while petting around head. A: Dog appears to be anxious and overwhelmed in the shelter. Affiliative and shows enjoyment with pets. Treat motivated. Knows some basic commands (sit). Pulls moderately on leash in the shelter. Yellow for shelter handling: dog resists returning to kennel and flinched/lowered body when touched unexpectedly.P: Make available for adoption. Adopters should be aware that previous owner reported that dog can be very vocal and was previously returned for barking and dog has been noted to be vocal in the shelter environment. Dog reportedly barks/growls/lunges at other dogs on leash. This behavior is likely due to either fear of the other dog, or excitement because they want to interact but cannot due to the leash. This behavior may be specific to the previous home, or may generalize to other environments. Recommend adopters work with a qualified dog trainer and/or behavior consultant if this is a concern.
