Health
[YELLOW]Background: Owner surrender on 9/11/26. Surrendered because dog had bitten and broken skin on a child. Dog lived in the home with children for 5 months prior to being surrendered. The circumstances of the bite were unknown. Given Green dot on intake. Tolerated all handling for intake procedures, including vaccines. Handling evaluation on 9/15/26.O: Soiled kennel. Barking and vocalizing in kennel, some jumping up. Got down when lured. Easy to leash. Pulled moderately on leash. Barked at another dog passing approximately 10 feet distant. Walked well on leash in the yard. In the yard, dog oriented to handler, barked and vocalized. Approached handler and leaned against handlerbx00s legs with petting all over head, ears, neck, chest, shoulders, back, and legs. Received with very relaxed musculature and soft eyes and mouth. Stepped forward for more interaction and leaned into pets after consent check. Sat when lured, took treats with moderate mouth, some teeth. Did not follow tossed toys or treats. Stayed in close proximity to handler throughout evaluation, soliciting pets.Volunteers report that dog is very resistant to rekenneling and Green volunteers have needed assistance rekenneling this dog. Volunteer notes to date are consistent across individual handlers.B A: Affiliative juvenile dog. Approaches handler readily and shows enjoyment with pets. Presents as medium energy. Walks well on leash following handlerbx00s lead. Knows sit. Does not appear to know any other commands. Unknown if house trained (eliminates in kennel). Has not shown interest in toys. Treat motivated. Yellow for volunteer handling: due to difficulty rekenneling, otherwise dog is easy to handle.B B P: Make available for adoption. Home with children is not a suitable match for this dog as he was previously reported to have bitten and broken skin while interacting with children in the home. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Adopter must be prepared for the time, energy, patience and commitment needed to raise and train an active, juvenile dog. Potential adopters should be familiar with the characteristics of Husky breed dogs (require regular grooming, tendency to be vocal, jump / dig under fences, potential for prey drive) and be prepared to provide sufficient exercise and enrichment.[2026-09-15 19:27:00.000]
