Meet Archie: an adult large boy, waiting at Oakland Animal Services in Oakland, ca.

Health

[YELLOW]Background: Owner surrender on 6/29/26 d/t housing issues. Given yellow dot on intake d/t barking in kennel. Dog was avoidant of handling, but dog tolerated some restraint for vaccination. Dog had met handler prior to handling evaluation on 6/30.O: Dog was standing at the front of the kennel with repetitive barking, weight back, slightly pursed lips, dilated pupils. Handler crouched and spoke to dog. Dog stopped barking and went into down position with soft face, then approached the front of the kennel with low wagging tail and pulled back ears. Slightly leash avoidant, but walked out when handler opened the door wide. Dog walked ahead of handler with mild pulling on leash, tail even with spine, ears back. Off leash in the yard, dog urinated then defecated two times. Approached handler with low wagging tail, put head into handlerbx00s hands, and leaned into pets around head, neck, chest, and back. Relaxed musculature for all over handling including teeth check. Did not take treats outside. B Relaxed with teeth check. Handler crouched in the yard. Dog approached and sat with back turned to handler. Relaxed with pets on the top of the head and along the back. Looked toward, but did not follow tossed toys. Moderate pulling back through the building with lowered, softly tucked tail. Dog walked along the wall, away from barking ward mates on the way back to the kennel with fully tucked tail, pulled back ears, and lowered/crouched body language. Walked into kennel ahead of handler. Took treats with a soft mouth while inside the kennel. Handler removed leash by hand without issue.A: Affiliative but timid and environmentally sensitive. Low energy. Shows enjoyment with pets. Training difficult to assess as dog currently appears to be anxious and overwhelmed. Pulls moderately on leash. Possibly house trained (holds it in kennel). Yellow for volunteer handling d/t barking in the kennel and slight leash avoidance. P: Make available for adoption. Observed environmental sensitivity may make a home with young children less suitable. Recommend adopters provide patient rewards-based obedience training and continue basic manners (leash skills, recall).[2026-07-02 00:54:00.000]
